Pakistan vs Australia 2014, 2nd Test, Day 2: 5 interesting highlights of the day’s play

A solid double ton by Younis Khan and a fine century by skipper Misbah-ul-Haq on day two of the Abu Dhabi Test made sure Pakistan continued dominating Australia. Resuming at an overnight score of 304 for two, Pakistan went on to declare their innings on mammoth 570 for six. Australia, late in the day were made to bat for 5.2 overs and at the close of play were 22 for one with Chris Rogers back in the hut. Azhar Ali departs early: Pakistan lost first wicket of the day in the shape of right-hand batsman Azhar Ali. With an overnight score of 101 under his belt, Azhar managed to add only eight runs on day two morning before Mitchell Starc had him caught behind. Azhar along with Younis piled 236 runs for the 3rd wicket.


Younis Khan smashes double ton: Pakistan’s mainstay Younis Khan continued his sublime touch as he notched up a superb double ton, his fifth in Test matches. Younis, along with Misbah ul Haq kept building Pakistan’s first innings in a classy yet effortless mannerIt took Younis 334 balls to reach his double hundred. Looking to up the ante, he fell to Peter Siddle for  213.


Misbahul Haq amongst runs: Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq made sure that he too took advantage of the tiresome Australia bowling and registered his sixth Test ton. He played the perfect foiil to Younis and his runs came at a decent strike rate (otherwise rare with Misbah) accumulated runs. Just after reaching his hundred, he handed Steven Smith a simple return catch.


Pakistan declares on huge 570 for six: After Younis Khan’s dismissal, Asad Shafiq tried to score runs quickly but he fell to Starc. Sarfraz Ahmad and Yasir Shah could not add much to Pakistan’s total and remained unbeaten as Pakistan declared their innings.


Australia further dented: After declaring on a mammoth first innings total, Pakistan further extended their authority over Australia as fast bowler Imran Khan had opener Chris Rogers caught behind minutes before close of play. At stumps, Australia are 22 for one with David Warner and night-watchman Nathan Lyon unbeaten on 16 and 1 respectively.
