Ahmad Shehzad missed a Corey Anderson bouncer to be struck on the head as he swiveled to play the pull shot, over balanced and fell over the stumps to be given out hit wicket and subsequently taken to a hospital for tests, during the second day’s play of the first Pakistan versus New Zealand Test at Abu Dhabi.
The first innings of the first test between Pakistan and New Zealand at Abu Dhabi saw, Pakistan opener Shahzad who was batting on a career best 176 look in imperious form and put Pakistan in a commanding position before succumbing to a freak dismissal. His Mother who has raised him as a single parent was incidentally cheering him from the stands. She fainted at the sight of her only son being struck on the head.
The blow to his head seems to have caused his mother more damage than to him, Shahzad’s manager tweeted . she’s been in great distress since the unfortunate incident occurred. Later Pakistan team’s manager/selector Moin Khan corroborated that Shahzad was fine and hadn’t sustained any serious injury but the condition of his mother remains a cause for concern.
