Greg Chappell hit back at Sachin Tendulkar on the former’s criticism of his coaching stint with the Indian team, calling the retired Indian batsman’s comments in his upcoming autobiography ‘false’.
Chappell who had a tenure as the Indian coach between 2005 and 2007 was marred with several controversies, refuted Tendulkar’s comments in his autobiography ‘Playing It My Way‘, in which he stated that Chappell wanted to replace Rahul Dravid with Sachin Tendulkar as the captain months before the onset 2007 World Cup.
“The claims made in Sachin’s new book were brought to my attention earlier today. Whilst I don’t propose to get into a war of words, I can state quite clearly that during my time as Indian coach I never contemplated Sachin replacing Rahul Dravid as captain,” Chappell told cricket.com.au.
Sachin Tendulkar blasted Greg Chappell in his autobiography, which is scheduled to be released this Wednesday, calling the latter a ‘ringmaster’, who imposed his ideas on players. The statement was supported by the likes of former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, who lost his captaincy at the arrival of Chappell. Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh revealed to the press that Chappell had allegedly used divisionary tactics on the players in order to keep them in control, and would betray them in front of the media quite often.
