Mahela Jayawardene got past 12000 One-day International (ODI) runs in the third ODI against India at Hyderabad. The Stylish right hander from Sri Lanka is the fifth cricket of the World and third Sri Lankan do this. Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Sanath Jayasuriya, Kumar Sangakkara were the other four cricketers who have achieved this feat before.
The innings Jayawardene played at Uppal, was simply outstanding. He showed his class once again and scored his 17th hundred as well. The former captain held one end up and on the other end, the visitors kept losing wickets. He finally got out at 118. Sri Lanka were 225 for 8 after 44.3 overs.
Jayawardene was the lone man fighting for Sri Lanka out there. Earlier Priyanjan tried to go over the top as Akshar Patel bowled one full. However, he did not get all of it and he hit it straight down mid-on’s throat. This is the second wicket in the batting powerplay as Angelo Mathews was dismissed just before.
Earlier, Angelo Mathews won the toss and elected to bat. Chathuranga de Silva and Nuwan Kulasekara came in for Suraj Randiv and Dhammika Prasad. For India Dhawal Kulkarni came in place of Ravindra Jadeja.
