Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a week-long visit to Australia and indulged in some cricket diplomacy with his Australian counterpart Tony Abbott. Modi addressed the Australian parliament and made a mention of cricket as a binding factor between the two countries.
Modi got a grand reception at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) from Abbott. Modi is the fist Indian Prime Minister to visit this country in 28 years.
Modi’s cricket diplomacy was carefully planned. As part of his contingent to Australia, Modi took former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev along with him. Without a doubt both the legendary cricketers accepted the request immediately. Even VVS Laxman was part of the contingent. Both cricketers posed with the PM during the event at MCG. Similarly, Australian cricketing legends Glenn McGrath and Steve Waugh were present at the event at MCG.
