Round 2 results wrap up

All but one of the results from this weekends games are in (Dan HS & Palm Nth have till 4pm today to submit or they lose their points).  Seems all of the games except ours were tightly contested.

PNBHS 4th XI vs. United
Boys High batted first and managed to reach 182/8 off their 40 overs with a 74 run 7th wicket partnership saving their innings thanks to L.Retemeyer (34) and I.Smiler (26).  United's bowling was OK, but it looks like their openers took a bit of stick going for 5.5 and 6.4 an over.  But T.Morrell still picked up 4/44 off his 8 which is an excellent return.  Of the 8 Boys High wickets to fall 4 were bowled and 2 were LBW demonstrating a great line by Uniteds bowlers (something we have come to expect) and perhaps some poor technique on the part of Boys High.

In reply United needed only 37.4 overs to chase down Boys High's total losing 5 wickets in the process.  A 46 run opening partnership between Rick (36) and B.Roberts (11) got them off to a good start but it was the effort of P.Mecredy (71*) that ensured they were untroubled on the way to winning the game.  Ok bowling by Boys High but only one bowler managed an RPO under 4.0.

United win by 5 wickets

Wanderers vs. Marist
Marist opened the batting and lost both openers cheaply before their middle order restored their innings for them.  But outside of three batsmen (C.Hansen 46, S.Prabakar 32 and N.Rosandich 36*) no-one made double figures. Still they managed to reach a respectable total of 177/8 off their 40 overs.  Bowling wise Wanderers opening pair look to be in good touch both snagging 2 wickets a piece at a very low RPO of 2.9.  Their other bowlers were also very economical but the pick was A.Hughes who finished with 4-29 off his 8 overs.

In reply while Wanderers No.1 went for a duck the rest of their top order all made small contributions No's 2-6 all reaching double figures.  But none of them could go on to make the big score needed and it appears that wickets fell regularly throughout their innings.  It was a close run thing though as their last wicket fell with the score on 169 in the 38th over, just 9 runs short of victory.  J.Harris - Marist's opening bowler looks to be dangerous nabbing 4/26 off his 7 overs, and the rest of their line up was, like Marist's, very economical no one going for more than 5 RPO.

Marist win by 2 wickets

Feilding vs. Maw Haws
Feilding batted first but other than J.Bingley (40) no-one made any headway and they were bowled out very cheaply, although not as cheaply as us, for 95 off just 19 overs.  Only one other player G.Signal (10) reached double figures.  Bowling wise all of Maw Haws players took wickets with the best being S.Verschaffelt with 3/18 although their opener J.Voice bowled 6-1-4-2 a really strong effort.

In reply Maw Haws openers went cheaply but their 3rd & 4th batters smashed them home Z.Templton reaching 54* for a solid 8 wicket win with 21 overs to spare.

Maw Haws win by 8 wickets

Round Summary
You can't read much into the results just yet as its only been one round and most players are still a wee bit rusty.  But they do show the importance of (a) at least one player per innings making a good score e.g. United & Maw Haws and (b) how bowlers can place pressure on teams through good economy rates.

And just one final comment for other clubs/teams out there to help things along on the weekends can you please shout out the names (not nicknames) of your bowlers when you change, we don't all know who they are.  Can't believe we still have to keep asking this.
