Virat Kohli becomes quickest to complete 6,000 ODI runs, breaks Viv Richards’ record

Virat Kohli on Sunday created history when he became the quickest ever to complete 6,000 runs in One-Day International (ODI) cricket, during the third match between India and Sri Lanka at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal, Hyderabad on Sunday.

West Indies’ legendary batsman Vivian Richards previously held this record. He reached 6,000 runs in 141 innings whereas Kohli has taken only 136 innings to achieve the feat.

Kohli has played 20 T20I matches and has scored 972 runs and he has amassed 1,855 runs in the 29 Test matches with an average of 39.46. He averages 51.29 in ODIs which is much higher than his Test and T20 average.

Kohli is currently leading the Indian team in the absence of MS Dhoni. He had a terrible time with bat recently. But since the Delhi ODI against West Indies he got back his form somewhat.

India will tour Australia next, then they will play the World cup. In these important series Kohli is expected to be India’s main man with bat. So if he manages to get this achievement, it will be a major confidence booster for him.
