Sammy, Mooney fined for swearing during match

West Indies batsman Darren Sammy and Ireland bowler John Mooney have been fined 30 per cent of their match fees as part of the International Cricket Council’s crackdown on on-field behavior

Sammy and Mooney were fined for separate incidents in the first innings of Ireland’s shock four-wicket win over the West indies in a World Cup Pool B match on Monday.

Sammy was heard on television screens using inappropriate language after playing a shot in the 34th over, while Mooney swore several times when a fielder dropped a catch in the 45th over.

Both players admitted to the offences under the ICC Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Chris Broad, meaning there was no need for a formal hearing.
