What happens if it rains during the Black Caps Cricket World Cup semi-final?

Play has resumed in the Black Caps Cricket World Cup semi-final against South Africa at Eden Park in Auckland, after rain sent players from the field this afternoon.

South Africa decided to bat after winning the toss and were 216/3 with 38 overs gone before rain forced the players into the sheds.

Play resumed at 6.45pm with South Africa’s innings shortened to 43 overs and their total score to be adjusted according to the Duckworth Lewis system.

If the rain returns and play is called off a second time, the match will resume tomorrow with reduced overs.

Depending on the playing conditions, every effort is taken to complete a minimum 20-over-a-side match if rain interrupts play.

In the case of an abandonment, tie or no-result situation in a quarter-final or semi-final, then the team finishing higher in its respective pool progresses to the next stage.

If the World Cup final is washed out on both the scheduled and reserve days, the two finalists are announced as joint winners.

New Zealand and India are the only two unbeaten sides left at the World Cup and topped their respective pools.
