Zaheer Khan alleges Greg Chappell would not let him play for India

India‘s premier speedster Zaheer Khan today revealed that Greg Chappell had told him back in 2005 that the fast bowler “would never play for India” till the time he would remain at the helm and termed the period under the Australian as the “darkest phase of Indian cricket”.

Zaheer Khan’s revealed the fact at a time when the former Indian coach was criticised by retired Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar, who called him a ‘ringmaster’ who imposed his ideas on players, ahead of the release of the Master Blaster’s autobiography, ‘Playing It My Way‘.

Sachin’s comments received support from several corners, especially former and current Indian cricketers such as Sourav Ganguly and Harbhajan Singh. In one particular comment, he accused Chappell of allegedly trying to replace then-Indian skipper Rahul Dravid with him. Chappell however, refuted all of his allegations in an interview .
